Space View Park

Space View Park, located in the downtown area between Washington Avenue and Indian River Avenue, was designed to treat stormwater runoff from 114 acres of commercial property. It captures stormwater in a wet detention pond that prevents sediment and floating trash from entering the Indian River Lagoon and provides nutrient removal.

Fountain & Alum Treatment

Included in the park is an aerating fountain that not only increases the ambiance of the park, but also increases the amount of dissolved oxygen in the stormwater. In addition, alum is injected into the stormwater. The alum treatment significantly reduces a number of things in the stormwater discharged to the lagoon, including:

  • Coliform bacteria
  • Heavy metals
  • Nitrogen
  • Phosphorus
  • Suspended solids
