With this nomination opportunity, we invite YOU to nominate a Sustainability Leader whose efforts are progressing our City's Sustainability Action Plan here in Titusville—whether it’s yourself, a neighbor, a local business, or a community group making a positive impact.
In 2023, Titusville committed to a Sustainable Action Plan (SAP) which includes 87 different action items across 6 key focus areas and 7 different goals. If you or someone you know is helping move our city closer to these goals, submit a nomination today!

Examples of Sustainability Actions
Examples for individuals could be;
- Choosing public transit or biking instead of driving is an example of helping achieve Sustainability Action Plan Goal 3: Transition to clean energy and Objective 3.2: Reduce energy consumption
- Environmental efforts like maintaining a native garden or composting helps Titusville achieve Objective 4.1...recycling, composting, reducing consumption, and... and Action Item 2.4.2: ...habitat restoration efforts...
- Water conservation efforts like watering plants from rain barrels to reduce daily water consumption achieves SAP Objective 5.1: Reduce per capita daily water consumption
- Practicing upcycling, repairing instead of discarding, etc. helps a multitude of initiatives such as SAP Objective 4.1 and 7.3
- Volunteering can also be an applicable action as long as the benefits are in Titusville but the associated action item may vary depending on the work.
- If you are volunteering to help the homeless in Titusville then that work would go toward helping Titusville achieve SAP Objective 1.4: ...reducing poverty and homelessness
Business nominees could be:
- 7.1.1 & 7.1.2 Example Adopting sustainable supply chain or manufacturing practices including, but not limited to:
- sustainable purchasing policies (locally sourced materials, recycled/repurposed raw materials, low greenhouse gas emissions)
- 7.4 Example Voluntary sustainable reporting/instituting a sustainable reporting framework (CDP, GRI, SASB, or others that benchmark and monitor a sustainability performance metrics)
- 3.1.4 & 3.3 Example Transitioning to renewable energy or pursuing net-zero carbon initiatives
- Providing a community sustainability service like
- 1.2 Example Provide a public garden
- organizing volunteer efforts (2.4.2 Example if the volunteering effort helps the environment & habitat restoration, 1.4.1 Example if it's helping alleviate poverty and homelessness)
- 4.1 Example Providing a recycling drop-off location
For organizations and groups, examples could include:
- Public projects
- 1.3.3 SAP Activity Example Collaborating with the City to provide or take care of public greenspace
- Organizing volunteering or fundraising activities
- 1.4 SAP Activity Example If the fundraising activity helps reduce poverty in Titusville then that activity could be applied a good
- Providing public engagement activities that promote community health
- 1.2.4 SAP Activity Example Organizing community outdoor exercise classes, nature walks, scavenger hunts, etc.
What is Sustainability?
Is your nomination being sustainable? Are their decisions demonstrating an awareness that their choices are connected to the world as it exists around them? These choices, big and small, add up to impact and influence our community.
As a result, Titusville has collectively outlined a future where these choices establish a community as it relates to these 6 Focus Areas

Who Can Be Nominated?
Any Group, Organization, Individual, or Business that is making an impact toward helping Titusville achieve Goals, Targets, Objectives, and Actions outlined in the Sustainability Action Plan.
What Do The Selected Nominees Receive?
All qualified nominees will be featured and recognized on the City's official website. Qualified nominees will be anyone who, a panel agrees, is participating in helping Titusville achieve its targets & goals outlined Sustainability Action Plan.
Select nominees will be invited to a complimentary Earth Day Luncheon on Earth Day April 22nd, 2025 at 12PM featuring an award ceremony, Proclamation from the Mayor, and a unique opportunity to meet and connect with other sustainability leaders.
The Selection Evaluation Process
Due to limited availability the selection process will be based on the following criteria and scored by a selection committee.
- Broad Impact – Does their work contribute to multiple Sustainability Action Plan (SAP) items, or are they implementing diverse solutions that address several action areas?
- Innovative Impact – Does the nominee’s effort stand out as a unique approach compared to other submissions?
- Exemplary Leadership – If a common action is repeated among nominees (e.g., biking as a primary mode of commuting), does this individual or organization lead the way by exceeding expectations in that category or make a greater overall impact across multiple categories and for the community overall?
- Community Endorsement – Has the nominee received multiple nominations, demonstrating strong community support and recognition?
If there are more qualified nominations than there are seats available at the luncheon the remaining qualified nominees will still be featured on the City's official website.
