Titusville Police Department Posted on December 06, 2024

At 6:50 AM, on Friday, December 6, 2024, officers responded to a 911 call from a woman, who was involved in an in-progress incident between herself and her estranged husband, whom a judge had issued no contact order against, occurring near the intersection of South Washington Avenue and Country Club Drive.

The preliminary investigation revealed Karl Christopher Gibson, 45, of Titusville, was threatening and aggressively pursuing the woman as they traveled in their vehicles southbound on South Washington Avenue.

Officers attempted a traffic stop, however the male suspect’s vehicle fled from police heading southbound on South Hopkins Avenue.

Officers pursued the suspect’s vehicle, stop sticks were deployed, and the suspect continued to drive to a home on Meadow Lark Drive.

The suspect exited the vehicle displaying a weapon forcing the officers to discharge their firearms.

Gibson was transported to a local hospital and was pronounced deceased at 8:08 AM.

There were no other injuries.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the officer-involved shooting incident and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is facilitating the crime scene investigation.

This is an active investigation, and further details will not be released until the conclusion of the investigation.
