The Titusville Police Department participated in a recent traffic campaign which resulted in safer roadways for motorists and pedestrians.
Officers participated in the “2023 Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” National Traffic and Highway Safety Administration Campaign (NHTSA) from August 18th through September 4th, via enforcement compliance and social media education in a focused effort to increase awareness and prevent the tragic impacts of impaired driving.
During this two-week nationwide traffic safety initiative, Titusville Police Officers were credited with 20 Driving Under the Influence (DUI) arrests and 93 citations for other traffic offenses. This is a significant increase in DUI arrests over the previous month.
With that said, there were no serious injuries in a traffic crash involving a DUI over the two-week timeframe, which includes the busy Labor Day weekend. DUI enforcement is proven to save lives (NTHSA, 2023).
“Traffic safety is always a high priority for our department and we must provide safe roadways for our community members”, said Lieutenant Chris DeLoach. “Our vigilant officers are getting results and will continue to enforce traffic laws and keep our city safe for motorists and pedestrians”, added DeLoach.
