An Officer Involved shooting occurred on Sunday, December 26, 2021 at approximately 7:20 p.m. in the 1500 block of Gayle Ave Titusville.

Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) responded to the scene and conducted the criminal investigation into the shooting while the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office processed the crime scene and collected evidence.

At a NAACP meeting in January of 2022, Chief John Lau stated that he was hopeful to have the completed FDLE report by April of 2022.

As of Monday April 4, 2022, FDLE is still awaiting the completion of the Medical Examiners Report. As soon as that report is forwarded to FDLE, the entire case package can be sent to our State Attorney’s Office for their review. It is then that the Titusville Police Department can complete their Internal Affairs Investigation involving this shooting.

At the completion of the Internal Affairs Investigation, the Titusville Police Department will first reveal their findings to the family of James Lowery. Only after that will this information be disseminated to our community and then the media.

All of the evidence in this case will be open to the public at the conclusion of the investigation.
