Traffic Crash Occurs While Woman Rescues Turtle

A two-car crash occurred after a driver stopped her vehicle in the travel lane of Grissom Parkway to assist a turtle crossing the two-lane roadway, just after 11AM on Friday, June 28th 2019.

Patricia Diane Dillard, 65, of Titusville, driving a 2018 Nissan Rouge southbound on Grissom Parkway, stopped her vehicle in the roadway to move a turtle from the street –which she did.

Christina Lynn Campbell, 41, of Cocoa, driving a 2017 GMC Terrain SUV southbound on Grissom Parkway, struck the rear of the stopped vehicle.

”We strongly urge against driver’s stopping their vehicles in the middle of a travel lane because it creates a significant risk to public safety”, said Deputy Chief Todd Hutchinson. “Fortunately, nobody was seriously injured in this incident”, added Hutchinson.

This traffic crash remains under investigation.
