Lagoon Cleared for Swimming, Boating, and Fishing

TITUSVILLE, FL - (August 4, 2018) – “Titusville’s residents and visitors can once again fully enjoy the Indian River Lagoon,” announced Sean Stauffer, Titusville Water Resources Director. After a wastewater leak, reported on July 30, the City of Titusville had posted notices along a section of the lagoon advising residents not to swim, boat, or fish.

In accordance with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s directives, Titusville has been monitoring the lagoon’s water quality for the last three days at five different locations in the vicinity of the leak. Based on the analyses of the samples, the water is once again safe for swimming, boating, and fishing.

The leak, which had been caused when an old force main ruptured, was stopped within three hours of it being reported. Titusville’s crews were able to shut down and properly abandon the damaged line. The area was cleaned and disinfected according to regulations. City crews continue to work to restore the area.
