City of Titusville is awarded a $1,060,500 state grant for water line project

City of Titusville is awarded a $1,060,500 state grant for water line project - Titusville, FL, March 6, 2018: The City of Titusville has been awarded a $1,060,500 million state grant from the state’s recently established Florida Job Growth Fund. To date, Titusville is the only city in Brevard County to be awarded funding through the program. The funds will be used to install a new public water main in the southern industrial district. The grant request was made after an internal city review determined that the infrastructure was needed to allow the Titusville water system to support the fire flow needs of job creating economic development projects in the southern industrial district of Titusville. The grant was announced this week by Florida Governor Rick Scott as part of the Department of Economic Opportunity Florida Job Growth Grant Fund program. Mayor Walt Johnson, City of Titusville, said, “On behalf of the Titusville City Council and our Citizens, we are extremely pleased that Florida Department of Economic Opportunity has agreed to provide the City up to $1,060,500 to install a new public water main in the southern industrial district of the City. This project allows the City to support emerging industries in this district representing $350 million in new capital investment and 725 new jobs. These jobs range from entry-level and skilled technicians, to high-skill, high-wage jobs. We are positive this grant will have an impact in attracting new businesses to our city and region”. The Florida Legislature created the $85 million Florida Job Growth Fund last year, after a battle about providing financial incentives to businesses. “Improvements to Infrastructure are key to supporting a community’s economic development efforts,” said Lynda Weatherman, president and CEO of the Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast. “This project will increase Titusville’s ability to compete for new job creating projects, while providing support to our existing companies.” Titusville City Council on Tuesday, February 27th unanimously authorized the city to accept the award and to enter into a related agreement with the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity. The city also received a letter of support from the Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast that assisted in securing the grant.
