City of Titusville COVID-19 Update/SITREP as of 06-Apr-20 / 0900
The health and safety of our citizens and Staff is the City’s top priority. All City facilities remain closed to the general public. City employees are working to serve our community like always. Staff continues to provide essential services to citizens through the preferred use of technology and telephones. Public Safety, Public Works, and Water Resources departments continue essential services with minimum disruptions.
Staff has attached two very informative documents regarding the coronavirus. The first is a fact sheet prepared by Johns Hopkins University (see attachment COVID-19 Johns Hopkins Univ). The second is a presentation/summary on SARS- COV-2 and COVID-19 authored by Daniel Vocelle PHD (COVID-19 Summary for sharing).
As of yesterday (5 Apr / 1800) there are 79 confirmed coronavirus cases in Brevard County.
Update on Brevard County COVID-19 drive-through testing locations and criteria:
Florida Department of Health: north, central & south Brevard locations. symptoms are fever of 100.4+, cough, and shortness of breath, must be symptomatic and meet one of the following criteria: aged 65 or older, have underlying health conditions, a first responder, have a prescription from a medical doctor To schedule an appointment, call 321-454-7141
OMNI Healthcare: Melbourne location. The CDC has recommended the use of cloth face coverings, in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies) especially in areas of significant community-based transmission; cloth face coverings recommended are not surgical masks or N-95s; for information click here: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/cloth-face-cover.html
Florida’s Division of Emergency Management is seeking the assistance of Florida manufacturers and suppliers to fill the needs of Florida’s hospitals and emergency care services including N95 masks, face shields, and gowns. AARP launched a program called “Friendly Voices” that allows people to request a call from a volunteer to chat and connect. A volunteer will call anyone back Monday through Friday between 9 AM and 5 PM. Additional information, click here https://aarpcommunityconnections.org/
A few more rumors have surfaced over the weekend that found to be not factual:
Rumor: Palm Bay mailed letters to residents regarding an upcoming curfew. Response: The City of Palm Bay has not mailed letters to residents regarding a curfew order.
Rumor: FWC is issuing citations to boaters for pleasure boating. Response: FWC not issuing citations to boaters.
Rumor: Homeland Security is mobilizing the National Guard to announce a national wide two-week quarantine for all citizens. Response: Homeland Security is not preparing to mobilize the National Guard to announce a nationwide two-week quarantine for all citizens.
Rumor: The Brevard County causeways are closing. Response: The Brevard County causeways are not closing.
