City of Titusville COVID-19 Update/SITREP as of 27-Mar-20 / 0900

Good Morning Mayor, Vice Mayor, Council Members, and Team Members,

All City facilities remain closed to the general public. Staff continues to provide essential services to citizens through the preferred use of technology and telephones.  Public Safety (Police, Fire and Emergency Services), Public Works (solid waste pick-up) and Water Resources departments continue services with minimum disruptions.

Our City Emergency Management team continues close coordination with our Brevard County Emergency Management partners.

All Brevard County beaches are closed this weekend beginning today Friday (27 Mar) through Sunday (30 Mar) between the hours of 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The United States now has more than 82,000 cases of COVID-19, leading the world. Florida has 2355 cases, with 12 confirmed in Brevard County. Brevard County cases are doubling every three days. There is a  shortage of collection and test kits, not just in Brevard, but statewide. Both the City and County continue to advocate for more of these test kits. Research does show that social distancing, testing, contact tracing, and isolation of confirmed cases is what will help flatten the curve and reduce the impact on the healthcare system.

As part of contingency planning the Florida Division of Emergency Management sent out a survey to all partners (county, cities, nonprofits, business groups, etc.) trying to identify potential locations for field hospitals or isolation centers, should they be needed. They are looking at places like auditoriums, hotels, unused hospitals or nursing homes, empty big box stores, community centers, or similar. The owner of Titusville Mall has offered up the old Sears building as a possible location for a field hospital or isolation center should it be needed.

Our next update will be today Friday (27-Mar) at 1400.

Sincerely,

Scott Larese
