Space View Park, located in the downtown area between Washington Avenue and Indian River Avenue, was designed to treat stormwater runoff from 114 acres of commercial property. It captures stormwater in a wet detention pond that prevent sediment and floating trash from entering the Indian River Lagoon and provides nutrient removal. Included in the park is an aerating fountain that not only increases the ambiance of the park, but also increases the amount of dissolved oxygen in the stormwater. In addition, alum is injected into the stormwater. The alum treatment significantly reduces phosphorus, heavy metals, suspended solids, nitrogen, and coliform bacteria in the stormwater discharged to the lagoon. The Park also includes space exploration features.
