FIRE LANE PARKING VIOLATIONS
We've all seen the signs: FIRE LANE--NO PARKING, but do we really heed them? How about those rainy days when you know you'll only be inside the store for just a second? Or when you used that ATM on the exterior of the grocery store? Or when you needed to load heavy purchases into your vehicle and the parking lot is too far away? Weren't you tempted to park in a fire lane "just this once"?
Tactical considerations to effectively mount an aggressive response to mitigate fire and hazardous situations requires unobstructed access around building perimeters. Fire lanes were established to allow this immediate access to structures by fire personnel.
Titusville City Ordinance Section 9-8 prohibits parking in designated fire lanes within our city. On February 22nd our department began issuing warnings to persons parking in fire lanes. These warnings are intended to educate and remind our community members of the law requirements. Warnings will continue until August when citations will be issued. Citiations carry a significant monetary penalty and/or the towing of the vehicle at the owner's expense.
We urge all citizens to recognize the importance of fire lanes and to park their vehicles only in legally designated parking spaces.
