Sunday, July 13, 2008

Titusville Police Chief Anthony C. Bollinger praised K9 Officer Kevin Hickey on the largest Marijuana seizure in Brevard County's history.A traffic stop on I-95 for a tail light violation led to the largest marijuana bust in the history of Brevard County.

The stop was conducted by K9 Officer Kevin Hickey and his trained drug dog "Bach". Seven hundred and thirty nine pounds of marijuana, loaded onto pallets and shrink-wrapped, was discovered after "Bach" alerted on the truck's trailer.

The driver, Victor Hidalgo-Melgar, 42 of Toronto, Canada, was arrested and charged with trafficking in marijuana. He has served time in prison for a previous conviction of drug trafficking.

"We are extremely proud of the job our K-9 teams do out there on a daily basis," police Chief Anthony C. Bollinger said. This is just another example of how valuable they are to the community."
