The City of Titusville, Florida / Police / NewsOfficers Capture Robbery Suspect within MinutesWednesday, July 14, 2010
(Titusville, FL)-- A man was arrested within minutes of robbing a disabled woman of her purse at a local restaurant.
At approximately 6:45 p.m. on 7-13-2010, at the Village Inn restaurant, South Washington Ave Titusville, a suspect pretended to hold the door open for a disabled woman entering the restaurant. Instead, he grabbed the woman's purse and fled south/west toward River Breeze apartments on Court St.
An employee and customer called police and gave a description of the suspect and direction of travel. Within minutes, several Titusville officers spotted the suspect nearby and arrested him after a brief foot chase.
DEMETRICE ALEXANDER SMITH, 19 of Titusville, has been charged with ROBBERY BY SUDDEN SNATCHING- which will have enhanced penalties because the victim is disabled; & RESISTING AN OFFICER.
Our officers just recently arrested this suspect for Loitering & Prowling; and they have also arrested him previously for Burglary, Possession of Cocaine, and Resisting an Officer.
