Gift Grab

There was an especially large turnout for our Annual Holiday Gift Grab, also called "Shop with a Cop", this year. On Saturday December 19th, one hundred and ten (110) very delighted local kids were taken on a shopping spree at Wal-Mart on Cheney Hwy . The kids are picked from the community by Titusville PAL and are given between $75.00 and $100.00 each to shop with. The event is funded by the Officer Lee Miller Annual Golf Tournament, Titusville PAL, Wal-Mart, and other donations.

"It's amazing to see how excited these kids are", said Chief Tony Bollinger, who joined in on the event. "This is a great opportunity to have a positive impact on our community", Bollinger added.

Each child was paired up with a "mentor" at the police department at 7:00 a.m. to help them with shopping. Kennedy Space Center donated three large tour buses to bring the kids and their mentors to Wal-Mart- complete with police escort. The event has grown so large that in addition to police officers, PAL volunteers, Fire & Emergency Services, and other community volunteers are used to be able to pair each child up with a mentor. Our officers noted that the most popular gift the kids buy are gifts for "mom".
