Titusville Fire Officer Receives Valor Award

 Fire Lieutenant Phillip Jones Receives Bronze Valor Award

Titusville Fire and Emergency Services Lieutenant Phillip Jones received a bronze medal for Valor on August 26, 2009.  This honor was presented at a ceremony sponsored by the Melbourne – Palm Bay Area Chamber of Commerce and held at the Melbourne Hilton at Rialto Place.  Lieutenant Jones was one of only 20 recipients presented with awards.  Nominations for this prestigious award were open to all law enforcement and fire rescue agencies with in the Brevard County area. 

Phil was awarded for his actions taken during a structure fire involving a large foam rubber pit at a local skating and biking center in Titusville on December 27, 2008.  His actions during the incident and his recognition of rapidly deteriorating fire conditions that resulted in a flashover allowed he and his firefighter to escape the deadly conditions quickly and safely with no injuries. 

Lieutenant Jones was also awarded the Department’s Meritorious Service Award for 2008 for his actions. This department award is reserved for personnel who, under adverse conditions, saves the life of another or otherwise performs their duties in an exemplary manner.
