Titusville Police have arrested a habitual traffic offender after the suspect nearly hit an officer with his vehicle, crashed into another vehicle, and left the scene of the crash while attempting to elude police.
Nathaniel Hunter Putteet, 26, of Titusville, was charged with Driving Under the Influence, Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding After a Crash, Resisting Arrest Without Violence, Reckless Driving, Leaving the Scene of a Traffic Crash with Property Damage, Felony Driving While License Suspended with Knowledge.
The preliminary investigation revealed that at 12:37 PM on Monday February 19th 2018, police responded to a report of a man slumped over the steering wheel of a red 2002 Dodge Durango truck in the parking lot of Kim’s Doughnuts located at 1800 South Washington Avenue.
As the traffic officer approached the vehicle and instructed the suspect to move into a parking spot, the suspect sped away from the scene and nearly struck the officer with his truck.
A few minutes later, the suspect was involved in a traffic crash on South Washington Avenue near the entrance of Titus Landing where he struck a victim driving a 2017 Nissan Murano sport utility vehicle. The suspect fled the crash scene at a high rate of speed.
Within less than 15 minutes, the suspect was located by officers and arrested without incident at a residence located on Rolling Hills Drive in Titusville.
There were no injuries to the suspect, officer or the hit and run vehicle driver.
Putteet was booked into the Brevard County Jail and is being held on a $39,000 bond.
