|Description: ||ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:|
This is semi-skilled work with some responsibility for directing the activities of others in a variety of construction and maintenance tasks. Tasks may include construction of gravity sewer lines; manhole construction and repair; installation of sewer force mains, distribution mains, service lines, laterals, etc. Operates heavy equipment and machinery such as air hammer, sewer-cleaning machine, ditching machine, boom truck, etc. Drives truck to haul crew, equipment, and materials to and from work sites. Ability to read and understand atlas sheets and follow a preventative maintenance program outline. Knowledge of the methods of ground maintenance, concrete work and/or block laying.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High School graduate or equivalent diploma is required plus three years' experience in construction, concrete work, grounds maintenance/construction, or gravity sewer maintenance/construction. A combination of education and experience may be considered. Depending on position/assignment: Florida Class “C” Water Distribution Class, “C” Stormwater System Operator and Class “C” Sewer Collection certifications highly desired.
Must possess a Florida Driver's License. Must obtain a Class B Commercial Driver's License with Tanker Endorsement and Air Brakes within 6 months from days of employment. Subject to emergency call-out during off-duty hours and on weekends as required. Sufficient physical strength/agility to perform heavy manual labor. Labor includes lifting up to 50 lbs., bending, stooping, pulling, climbing, and working outside in all types of weather. Must be able to enter, by ladders, confined spaces and large storm water pipes for internal repairs. Must possess adequate sight and hearing capabilities to receive and give orders or directions in regard to work safety operations in the presence of moderate background noise.
During occasions of local emergencies this position may be required to report to perform emergency tasks, which may result in extended work hours as well as extended periods of time away from family members. The Incident Commander and the employee’s department Head will make the determination as to who will be required to work.
