UMU Zoning Update

How do we Accommodate the Coast-to-Coast Trail and its Users?
 
The Titusville section of the Coast-to-Coast Trail (also known as the Space View Trail) is now complete. Staff is requesting your input as to how the existing Urban Mixed Use (UMU) zoning district may be amended to include uses that accommodate the trail.

Based on this opportunity and the number of visitors and residents expected to utilize the trail, staff is now exploring options to expand where certain uses are allowed within the zoning district. Staff is specifically focusing on properties adjacent to the trail, while protecting existing residential uses in the area.

The Planning Department held a public meeting at City Hall on Thursday, February 16, 2017. In attendance were three staff members and ten interested citizens. During the workshop, the discussion primarily focused on four topics:
  • How the allowable uses should be changed.
  • Increasing safety for residents and trail users.
  • How the trail may change the neighborhood.
  • Other initiatives the neighborhood and/or the City could pursue.
A complete list of the notes taken during the meeting are available here. Additional comments and/or questions may still be submitted in the "Provide your input" section below. Staff will take the input from the public and update the Urban Mixed Use (UMU) Study, and draft amendments to the language of the Urban Mixed Use zoning classification. The public will be notified of and invited to the Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council meetings to provide input on the proposed changes.
