CAUTION: The City of Titusville has received several complaints from citizens in reference to receiving fraudulent telephone calls from subjects claiming to be with the utility department. If you receive a telephone call of this nature and are unsure about the origin of the call, please immediately hang up and contact your local law enforcement agency for further assistance.

Illicit Discharge - Storm Drains & the Law

Did you know. . .

In the City of Titusville, it is unlawful for any person to drain or deposit onto any street, gutter, ditch, or body of water organic or inorganic matter which causes or tends to cause pollution.

It is also unlawful to drain or deposit into the City's storm drains any organic or inorganic matter which causes or tends to cause pollution. Polluting matter includes, but is not limited to, the following:
 
 
Lawn clippings, leaves, branches, etc. Pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers

   X Animal carcasses


  X Pet waste

Antifreeze, and other automotive products

Petroleum products, including but not limited to oil, gasoline, and grease


          X Chemicals

         X Recreational vehicle waste

Construction materials
Refuse
 
       Degreasers, solvents
         Sanitary sewage
 
  Laundry waste
      Silt
 
                   X Acids or alkalis
                X Soaps
Paints
Toxic or poisonous solids or liquids
 
 
It is also unlawful to wash any public or private streets, sidewalks or parking areas into a gutter, outlet or stormwater system, unless all visible debris and sediments have been removed prior to washing.
 
Violation of City Code could result in a fine not exceeding five hundred dollars ($500.00) or imprisonment for a term not exceeding sixty days, or by both such fine and imprisonment. Each day any violation of any provision of the Code continues could constitute a separate offense. (Section 16-15, City of Titusville, Code of Ordinances.)
