Florida-Friendly Landscape Seminars

2004
2004 Florida Friendly Landscape Seminar

Frequently, Titusville Water Resources' Conservation Program sponsors or co-sponsors a Florida-Friendly landscape seminar. The seminars are designed to educate local homeowners on how to make their yards Florida-Friendly. Participants learn that Florida-Friendly yards are attractive, low-maintenance, and water-conserving. Topics covered at the seminars include using waterwise and native plants in home landscapes, reducing turf area, watering efficiently, and integrated pest management.

Over half of all residential water use is outside the home. By offering the seminars and educating people on Florida Friendly techniques, we can make a significant impact upon the amount of water used for irrigation.

The 2007 landscape seminar, Bringin’ in the Green the Florida-Friendly Way!, was held on Saturday, March 17. The seminar was sponsored by the Brevard Water Resources Conservation Team, which is composed of representatives from the cities of Titusville, Cocoa, Melbourne, Palm Bay and Brevard County.

Guest speakers included Loren Rapport with Brevard County, Sharon Dolan with Maple Street Natives, and Sally Scalera with UF Brevard County Extension Service. Presentations included:  A Wise Eye for Waterwise Landscape Planning by Loren Rapport, Going Native by Sharon Dolan, and What's Bugging You - Integrated Pest Management by Sally Scalera.

A dvd of the seminar is available in the Research section of the Titusville Library or a dvd can be ordered through the Conservation Office.
