Police Officers capture robbery suspect within minutes of his crime.
A Titusville teenager robbed a 71 year-old woman of her purse today while she was inside the Miracle City Mall, 2500 S. Washington Ave. Several other shoppers saw what happened and chased after the suspect, chasing him across S. Hopkins Ave where he jumped a fence. Several Titusville Police officers were in the area and caught up to the suspect about two blocks away.
The suspect, a sixteen year-old Titusville resident, had disguised himself with a woman's wig, clothing, and make-up during the crime. The stolen purse was recovered from the suspect and returned to the elderly victim. Fortunately, she was not injured during the incident.
The victim was very great full for the help she received from the other shoppers.
The suspect has a previous arrest for Auto Theft.
Per Florida State Law, because the defendant was wearing a disguise during the crime, his Robbery by Sudden Snatching charge, normally a 3rd degree felony, is bumped up to a 2nd degree felony.
