Kicks for Guns

The Titusville Police Department, Cocoa Police Department and the Palm Bay Police Department will join more than one dozen other law enforcement agencies from around Central Florida to host the annual “Kicks for Guns” campaign on Thursday, August 14, 2014 from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. “Kicks for Guns” is a completely anonymous program that allows area residents to trade in unwanted weapons for gift cards to area merchants no questions asked.

In Titusville the event will be held at the 405 South Hopkins Avenue at the old downtown district at corner of Hopkins Avenue and Julia Street.  Participants at this location will also receive $50 gift cards with no limit on number of cards for guns.  Gift cards valued at $10 will be given in exchange for pellet/air guns.  If residents are unable to make it to the Hopkins Avenue location in Titusville, police will arrange special pickups on this day only by contacting the Titusville Police Department.

In Cocoa the event will be at Byrd Plaza, 801 Dixon Blvd.  Participants at this location will receive $50 gift cards to Wal-Mart, Publix or Winn Dixie with a maximum of 3 per person and $10.00 for pellet guns.

In Palm Bay the event will be held at Riviera Park, 550 Riviera Drive NE.  Participants will receive a $50 gift card to Wal-Mart, maximum 4 per person.  Pellet guns and air guns earn a restaurant coupon while supplies last.

The “Kicks for Guns” program is in its 16th year.  Originally, guns were traded in for new shoes at a single location.  Due to changing economic conditions the program shifted to gift cards.

Anyone wishing to turn in unwanted firearms should make sure the weapons are safely unloaded and properly secured in the vehicle when arriving at the venue entrance.  Officers and police department personnel will retrieve all weapons and provide a ticket in order to enter the venue to obtain the gift card.
