Mayor Swank Proclaims May 14-20 as EMS Week in Titusville

Titusville Mayor Ron Swank signed a proclamation declaring May 14-20 as EMS Week in Titusville.  The theme, EMS: Serving on Health Care's Front Line, acknowledges emergency medical services as a vital public service and recognizes the members of emergency medical service teams that are ready to provide life saving measures to those in need, 24 hours a day and seven days a week.

"Emergency medical service responses account for over 75 percent of the calls Titusville Fire and Emergency Service crews respond to each year.  Nationally, child injuries alone account for more than 20 million emergency department visits, another 780,000 will need hospitialization and 19,000 will die annually."  said Titusville EMS Chief Bob Allard.   He added, "Every Titusville citizen can make a difference in preventing injuries by adopting preventive safety strategies such as using seatbelts and child restraint seats, wearing bicycle and motorcycle helmets, installing safety devices around pools and other hazards and learning CPR and first aid."

In recognition of EMS Week, Titusville Fire and Emergency Services will participate in Kids Day America 2006, sponsored by Daly Chiropractic, on Saturday, May 20 from noon until 3:00 at 2405 Garden Street.  They will be joined by members of the Titusville Police Department's K-9 and Motorcycle Units, the Sheriff's Department and other local groups and agencies, providing a myriad of safety programs and fun activities for children.  Some of these include face painting, puppet shows, free child ID and fingerprint cards, computerized spinal screening, health and safety tips, karate demonstrations, therapy horses from Fox Lake Farms, Safari Todd's wildlife presentation and much, much more.
