EMS Week/Bicycle Month: Keeping Children Safe

BikeSafety The best way to acknowledge National Emergency Medical Services Week (5/19-26/13) and National Bicycle Month (5/13) is to take action to protect you and your family.

Having Fun and Being Safe On Your Bike!
There are so many great reasons to ride your bike: It offers fun, freedom and exercise, and it is good for the environment.  Remember that we have to be safe and aware of our surroundings at all times when riding a bike.  We want kids and families to ride their bikes as much as possible. Here are a few tips so that you will be safe while you do so.

The Hard Facts:
More children ages 5 to 14 are seen in emergency rooms for injuries related to riding their bike than any other sport.  Helmets can reduce the risk of severe brain injuries by 88 percent.  Yet only 45 percent of children 14 and under usually wear a bike helmet!  Florida state law requires children 15 and younger to wear bicycle helmets while riding their bike!
