Three talented elementary students  traveled to school last week in an usual way--via a fire truck!  Savanna Lavant, Natalie Perin, and Olivia Vickers were all grand winners in the annual Fire Safety Poster Contest sponsored by Titusville Fire and Emergency Services.  In addition to being picked up from their homes and driven to school in a fire truck, the artwork of each grand winner will be displayed at the Titusville fire station nearest their home and students also received a certificate of achievement signed by Fire Chief Mike Woodward.

For the contest, students were given a variety of safety messages upon which to base their themed artwork.  Each participating school evaluated the artwork submitted by their own students and made the preliminary selection of their school finalists in each of the three grade categories.  The finalists from each school were then judged again in their grade category, award a finalist certificate, and the grand winners in each grade group were chosen from among the finalists.

"This is an excellent method to encourage the youth of our community to think about fire safety and it also helps to reinforce the safety messages they are taught throughout grade school by our department.  We are privileged to display the artwork of these students in our fire stations for the next year.  The community is urged to pay particular attention to letters, correspondence and brochures from our department as you just may spot the artwork of the grand winners and those of the finalists featured as a special edition in these informational venues, " stated Titusville Fire Chief Mike Woodward.
