Titusville Fire Department Presents Linda Kodesch MD With Civilian Service Award

Citizen Award

Titusville Fire Chief Rick Talbert honored one of our local citizens, Linda Kodesch MD, in a ceremony at Fire Headquarters on April 13, presenting her with our Department's Civilian Service Award.  Participating in the award ceremony was our Firefighter of the Year, Driver-Operator/Paramedic Tiffany Ford, who had nominated Dr. Kodesch for the prestigious award.

On the evening of March 10, 2005 an emergency call was received at Titusville Station #10 on Singleton Avenue for a vehicle accident that occurred at the public tennis courts adjacent to the fire station.  Upon arrival, it was discovered that a pediatric patient was involved.  Apparently, he had been standing at the back of his coach's SUV when a pick-up truck lost control, striking the young man and pinning him under it's tire.  Luckily, Dr. Kodesch was present as an onlooker to the tennis matches that were going on.

Upon hearing of the accident, she quickly responded to the site and began treatment by applying direct pressure to the patient's significant injury.  This was an extraordinary act since she carried no personal protection or equipment.  Her preliminary care and her medical experience were extremely valuable to both the health of the patient and to the arriving paramedic emergency crews.  Dr. Kodesch was commended for her willingness to become involved and the effectiveness of her actions.

CIVILIAN SERVICE AWARD

Awarded for personal assistance by a civilian in apprehending an arsonist or extending oneself beyond one's own safety to provide prompt action to aid people who are in danger.
