FIRE MARSHAL CHUCK BOGLE

 CITY MANAGER'S AWARD:

The City Manager presents an award to an employee, group, or individual for accomplishments in building unity/harmony of the workforce spanning divisions/departments to create better working relations.  This could be evident through effective communication, information sharing, joint problem solving, consensus decision-making, and/or cooperation.

In the beginning of August 2005 the City was faced with a crisis in the Community Development Department-mounting criticism from the community on zoning/planning issues, overwhelming building construction and a lack of leadership in CDBG and other critical top management positions that were vacant within the department due to retirements and resignations.  When asked to help, Fire Marshal Chuck Bogle had no hesitation about stepping in and assuming the leadership role of this vital and controversial department.  He accomplished the tasks before him and stabilized the department.  He was commended and recognized for this incredible (and on-going) achievement.

LIFE SAFETY SPECIALIST REGGIE BELLE

 EXTRA MILE AWARD:

The Extra Mile Award is presented to an employee or group of employees that show extra effort and superior performance on a specific project, task force, or routine assignment.  This award also recognized oustanding contributions to accomplish team goals, objectives, and quality service.

Two weeks before Christmas, 2005 a recently unemployed single mother approached Reggie about securing smoke detectors for the home she was providing for her family of five.  Although unable to qualify for the department's grant-funded detector program because she lived outside of the city limit areas authorized by the grant, Reggie didn't stop there.  Contacting a social agency and working with Wal-Mart, he was able to secure funding and donations for both smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and other assistance.  He also ensured that she had sufficient and correctly installed child restraint seats for her children before she drove away.  After discussing her situation with staff members, he also provided this family with donations for food and other certificates from a local grocery store and market chain.

Reggie went the extra mile to ensure that this family was safe and well-cared for, but this is just one example of the many times he has stepped outside his job requirements to help in whatever way he can.  His helpful and caring nature comes through with everyone he comes into contact with.
