Avenue of Flags
Monday, April 03, 2006
Dear Citizen of Titusville:
How does it make you feel when you drive along U.S. 1 and see the American Flags proudly flying? During this time of unrest, it is reassuring to look up and see that mighty symbol of American freedom.
The Avenue of Flags was created in 1976 as part of our bicentennial celebration. Originally, the flags were only displayed for special occasions. However, at the urging of Titusville citizens, the flags have flown continuously since 1990. To continue this patriotic display requires the continuous replacement of the 250 flags that make up the Avenue of Flags. These Flags must be replaced a minimum of three times per year due to inclement weather and normal wear and tear.
Since its inception, the Titusville Flag and Memorial Committee has assumed the responsibility for raising the funds necessary to purchase the American Flags, while the City has provided the staff and equipment needed to physically replace the flags. Over the past 30 years, Titusville citizens and businesses have continued to support this patriotic display through their generous donations.
Please help us continue to maintain this reflection of American patriotism and pride by contributing to the Avenue of Flags fund. If you would like to make a contribution, please complete the following section and return it along with your check to Titusville Flag and Memorial Committee, P. O. Box 2806, Titusville, FL 32781-2806. Thank you for your generosity.
