Medical Assistant Arrested for Prescription Fraud
Friday, August 06, 2010

An employee of the Riverside Medical Center in Titusville was arrested on August 6, 2010  for 32 counts of Acquiring Prescriptions by Fraud after using her position to steal a prescription pad and obtain thousands of pain pills from five different pharmacies in Brevard County over a several month period.

ARRESTED: JAIME E. GURNAVAGE, 28 of 7130 Hundred Acre Drive Cocoa, Florida. Booked into Brevard County Jail, $62,000 Bond.

Detectives were tipped off after a local pharmacy became suspicious of the large quantity of prescriptions being filled by the suspect. The doctor whose prescriptions were stolen was unaware and fully cooperated with the investigation.

Gurnavage stole a prescription pad back as early as February from a doctor at Riverside Medical Center. She wrote prescriptions for large quantities of Hydrocodone, Loratabs, (narcotic painkillers) and Carisoprodol (muscle relaxer).

Prescription fraud and medication abuse is increasing significantly across the State. Titusville Police appreciate the cooperation and alertness from some of our major pharmacies in the city like Walgreens and CVS, who have been helpful in helping us identify prescription fraud cases.
