The Titusville Police Department held it's award ceremony on February 19, 2010 at the Elks Lodge in Titusville. T.P.D. holds an annual awards ceremony to recognize its employees achievements from the previous year. This year was no exception will numerous Officers and Civilian employees recognized. Please help us congratulate our award winners for 2009.

 

Reserve Officer of the Year - 2009

Reserve Officer Alan Watson has been serving the City Of Titusville since September of 2005.  Officer Watson has devoted many volunteer hours to the city as a Reserve Police Officer in 2009. He coordinates the Reserve Officer’s activities, schedules events, disseminates information, takes minutes at the monthly meetings and determines the agendas for future meetings. Alan has been the point of contact for operations involving the Sheriff’s Reserve unit which has proven to be a valuable asset to this department, both in manpower at special events, and economically.

Police Services Specialist Suzanne Canada started with the Titusville Police Department on May 11, 1995.  At that time, she was assigned to the department’s Records Section. Shortly thereafter she was reassigned to our Special Investigations Section and the transferred to our Training Section where she remains today.

She has been married to her husband Frank for 17 years.  They have one son, Trevor, who just turned 16.

Communications Operator Melissa LaMothe came to Florida from Washington State in 1992.  She began with the Police Department in October 2002 and two years later was named our Communications Operator of the Year for 2005.  She is one of our hardest working dispatchers and has received several commendations from her peers and officers complimenting her positive attitude, her outstanding work ethic and professional demeanor.

Melissa has three sons, ages 30, 28 and 26.  She has three granddaughters, ages 7, 4 and 2; one grandson, age 2; and another grandchild on the way!!!

 

 

 

Community Watch Volunteer of the Year - 2009

Kenneth is a 2½ year member of our Unit and is an exemplary model of a Community Watch member. His demeanor and appearance project a very professional image to the public. He is friendly to all, is known for his courtesy and punctuality and he completes his various tasks in a professional manner.  He has volunteered more hours than any other Community Watch volunteer this year.  As of December 30, 2009 he completed 442 hours of volunteer service to the City of Titusville. He is always willing to fill in where needed, will accept an assignment on the spur of the moment and is currently a Field Training Officer for the Community Watch volunteers. For all he does, Ken Morey is more than deserving of being named the Titusville Police Department’s 2009 Community Watch Volunteer of the Year.

Denise is an extremely hard working and dedicated volunteer.  Her daughter Ashley became interested in the Explorers and not only did we get an additional Explorer, but an extremely committed Associate Advisor in Denise.  Her perseverance and enthusiasm is virtually unmatched.  She dedicated 754 hours to the Explorer Program in 2009.  This is an amazing task in itself, but is further enhanced by the fact that she also runs a Cub Scout and Girl Scout Troup, has a full time job, and is on the Disaster Action Team of the American Red Cross.  In addition, she is the adoptive mother of three children who she absolutely adores.

For all she does for us, her community, and the young men and women of our Explorer Program, there is no question she should be awarded the department’s 2009 In-House Volunteer of the Year.

 

 

Supervisor of the Year – 2009

Sergeant Erich Barrett began with the Titusville Police Department in April of 1996 after serving with us as a Reserve Officer.  During his tenure with us, he has been awarded Officer of the Month seven (7) times and nominated countless times, he has received the department’s Life Saving Award twice, our Exceptional Service award twice and in 2001 was awarded the department’s and Brevard County’s Officer of the Year. In November 2008 he was promoted to Sergeant and immediately received Supervisor of the Quarter for the first two quarters he was promoted.  The leadership and experience he brings to the shifts he has supervised have lead to several high profile case closures and arrests and several firearm and drug seizures. Sergeant Barrett and his wife Holly are the proud parents of three beautiful children.

Detective Edens started at the police department as a Police Explorer when she was 13 years old.  She became a Communications Operator when she turned 18 and stayed in dispatch for 6 years.  She then attended the Police Academy in 2003, and when she graduated she was assigned to our patrol division.  In 2005 she was recruited to work in our Investigations Division and has been there ever since.  Jessica has a 10 year old daughter, Tatiana, and is also in charge of the department’s Police Explorer Post.

Officer Jorge Martinez came to our department in October of 2007 after serving seven honorable years in the United States Coast Guard.  In the Coast Guard he was stationed in Miami, Key West and Cape Canaveral and was part of the Guard’s Search and Rescue, Drug Interdiction and Migration Interdiction teams.  He and his wife Connie have a six-year old daughter, Brooklyne.

During his tenure with the Titusville Police Department he was nominated for our Outstanding Rookie Award in 2008, was nominated for three, and received two, Life Saving Awards, he received our Exceptional Service Award and our Officer of the Month award and now Officer of the Year for 2009.  He is a Field Training Officer and was selected to be a member of our Crime Suppression Unit and the department’s SWAT Team.  He maintains an exceptional sense of humor while maintaining a very strong work ethic.  He is terrific role model for our officers and is an absolute pleasure to work with.
