On Saturday, December 13th, Titusville Police teamed up with PAL to make the Annual Holiday Gift Grab a huge success! Unlike some traditional "shop with-a-cop" programs during the holiday season, Titusville PAL's Holiday Gift Grab has grown in popularity so much through the years that it now involves volunteers who represent almost every City department and numerous businesses throughout Titusville.
From Titusville Mayor Jim Tulley, to off-duty police officers, Firefighters and PAL volunteers, we had over 100 volunteers show up to help 100 kids from our community go christmas shopping. Children are picked from the community based on their family's economic situation. Each child is paired up at TPD Headquarters with a volunteer that assists the child with selecting christmas gifts from a $75.00 gift card donated by PAL with assistance from Wal-Mart and other businesses. The Kennedy Space donated three tour buses with drivers to transport each child and their chaperone to and from Wal Mart.
To the suprise of many volunteers, the children do not just buy gifts for themselves. Many of the gifts they pick out are for relatives -especially moms! In the words of Assistant Chief John Lau, "The first year I volunteered for this, I had to drag myself here. But after seeing how special this day is to the kids, you couldn't keep me from this rewarding event for anything in the world", Lau Stated. "Ironically, I think the adult volunteers have as much fun as the kids" he added.
