TEST YOUR SMOKE AND CARBON MONOXIDE ALARMS TO INSURE THEIR WORKING EFFECTIVENESS
CHANGE THE BATTERIES IN YOUR ALARMS WHEN THE TIME CHANGES ON NOVEMBER 2, 2008
Titusville Fire and Emergency Services Department is encouraging all members of our community to take the opportunity during this weekend's time change to also change the batteries in their smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and make sure they are functioning properly.
The National Fire Protection Association statistics show that in homes equipped with smoke alarms, the units did not function properly in 3 out of every 10 fires. The devices did not work primarily because of missing, dead or disconnected batteries. Households with non-working smoke alarms now outnumber those households with no smoke alarms at all. This is an alarming statistic that must be reversed. Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are one of the most effective means to provide early warnings to homeowners of impending fire or deadly gases.
If Titusville citizens need assistance in changing the batteries, checking their smoke detectors or installing new detectors, our firefighters are available to help. Also, if our citizens need smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, but can't afford them, Titusville Fire and Emergency Services Department will provide and install them, FREE OF CHARGE.
For more information or to set up an appointment for a detector check or installation, please contact Titusville Fire and Emergency Services Headquarters at 383-5708.
