Officers catch business burglars in the act
Thursday, September 20, 2007

An alert Titusville Police Officer caught several burglars in the act of breaking into the Winn-Dixie Supermarket, 1564 Harrison St. on September 20th. The arrests led investigators to solve a previous burglary at the same location a week earlier.

Titusville Officer Mark Hubbell was conducting surveilance patrol of the businesses in the area when he spotted a suspicious vehicle parked across from the Winn-Dixie. After interviewing the driver, he suspected a possible burglary in progress nearby. Within minutes, he spotted two masked suspects sliding down from the roof of the Winn-Dixie.

Kristopher Cyle Mendoza, 19, of Alachua Ave was arrested after a short foot chase. The 2nd suspect, Derek Bolton Larkins, 20, of Clarewood Blvd. was arrested after he was spotted hiding in nearby bushes by the Brevard County Sheriff's Helicopter.

The driver of the lookout vehicle, Kristin Nichol Dettmer, 17, of N. Carpenter Rd. was arrested a short time later. A fourth suspect, Michael Jay Lovier, 17, of Oradell Ave, who hid overnight in the store's ceiling, was arrested later that morning.

All four are charged with felonies relating to burglary. More arrests in this case are expected.
