The City of Titusville, Florida / Police / NewsDriver Seriously Injured in S. Park Ave CrashTuesday, September 19, 2017(Titusville, FL), A 22 year-old Titusville man was seriously injured in a traffic crash on South Park Ave at 4PM on Tuesday, September 19th 2017.
A Honda Civic, being driven by ANGEL LUIS RODRIGUEZ, 22, of Titusville, was Northbound on S. Park Ave at Country Club Drive. A Ford Explorer, being driven by JASON LEE McILRATH JR, 17, of Elliot Ave Titusville, turned left onto Country Club Drive from Southbound S. Park Ave, colliding with the Honda Civic.
The driver of the Honda Civic, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was transported by MedFlight to a trauma center with serious injuries. The driver of the Ford Explorer, who was wearing a seatbelt, was uninjured.
The preliminary investigation reveals that the Honda Civic that RODRIGUEZ was driving had a modified, custom wooden steering wheel, and that the manufacturer’s airbag had been removed. Crash investigators believe the combination of no seatbelt and no airbag increased the driver’s injuries.
“This is another example of a crash in which the driver could have walked away with minor injuries if he was just wearing a seatbelt”, said Sergeant Lincoln Strom.
Witnesses to the crash told investigators that the driver of the Honda Civic appeared to be driving at a high-rate of speed.
