The City of Titusville, Florida / Police / NewsSpecial Olympics Torch Run 2017
The Special Olympics Torch Run took place in Titusville on Thursday, April 20th, and members of our department and other City team members participated in this annual event. The Torch Run is designed to bring awareness and funding to benefit the Special Olympics of Florida.
The Titusville leg of the event started at Publix on Garden Street, and ended at Sand Point Park. Several other communities in Brevard County held their own leg of the run and carried the Olympic Torch from South Brevard County to North Brevard County, which ended in Titusville.
Athletes, law enforcement, and community members were escorted by law enforcement vehicles during the event. Many motorists honked their horns and shouted words of encouragement to the participants as they passed by.
Titusville Fire Department paid tribute to the runners, bikers and walkers as they entered Sand Point Park by displaying a large American flag from a ladder truck above the roadway.
“We are committed to participating in this amazing program every year”, said Titusville Police Chief John Lau”.
