Description: 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
This is responsible technical work performing building inspections during construction, alteration, or modification for compliance with municipal codes.  Incumbent coordinates with other inspectors to examine building/zoning projects from initial permit issuance through completion.  Interprets and enforces applicable codes/laws.  Work is assigned/reviewed by the Deputy Building Official and/or the Department Director.

 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION FOR EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:  
High School graduate or equivalent diploma required plus five years' experience in building inspection/construction.  Standard Certification by the State of Florida’s Department of Business and Professional Regulations as a Building, Electrical, Plumbing, or Mechanical Inspector required.  Prefer certification in a field of specialty, multiple Certifications desired.  A combination of education and experience may be considered.
 
PHYSICAL/SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:  
Possession of Florida Operator's license and must be able to provide dependable transportation. Subject to Emergency call-out during off-duty hours and on weekends as required. Must complete Inspector certification by International Code Council, FL State Minimum Standards, or comparable national agency in field of assignment (building, plumbing, electrical, mechanical) within one year of employment.  Incumbent with primary assignment in electrical inspections must possess Journeyman Electrician certification.
