|Description: ||ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:|
This is a technical and supervisory position in the operation and maintenance of a Water Treatment Plant and water supply facilities. Incumbent interacts with outside governmental agencies, which impact the water supply and water treatment process. All work is performed under the general direction of the Water Resources Director, but with minimum direct supervision. Assignments are received orally and in writing. Incumbent is expected to anticipate work assignments, exercise independent judgement, effectively communicate with supervisor, staff and peers and make decisions within the scope of his/her responsibility. Plans, organizes, and supervises the operation and maintenance of the Mourning Dove Water Treatment Plant, well fields and pump stations. Coordinates operation and maintenance activities performed by Chief Operator, Chief Maintenance Mechanic and other Water Production staff to insure compliance with all applicable regulations and resource availability. Develops and implements new cost-effective initiatives in treatment processes, water supply sources and facility improvements. Assists in design and specification writing for facility upgrades and equipment replacement. Prepares annual budget recommendations. Requisitions needed supplies and equipment. Monitors operating and capital budgets. Maintains records and prepares reports for the Director, the City and other governmental agencies. Counsels employees and administers discipline as required. Supervises and evaluates employee performance. Holds periodic meetings to inform employees of City/department policies, procedures and developments. Trains employees as required. Develops and implements procedures for the safety of employees and equipment. Responds to inquires from the public and regulatory agencies. Performs related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or chemistry plus five years' of progressively responsible experience in the operation of a potable water treatment plant and water supply facilities is required. Must include one year of supervisory experience. Possession of a state certified water treatment operator's license; an “A” license is required. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
Possession of a valid Florida driver’s license is also required. Subject to emergency call-out during off-duty hours and on weekends as required. Ability to read printed material and hear sounds. Ability to operate a vehicle on a daily basis. Ability to climb stairs frequently. DURING OCCASIONS OF LOCAL EMERGENCIES THIS POSITION MAY BE REQUIRED TO REPORT TO PERFORM EMERGENCY TASKS, WHICH MAY RESULT IN EXTENDED WORK HOURS AS WELL AS EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME AWAY FROM FAMILY MEMBERS.
